WHY AM I DOING THIS BLOG?
As part of my Publishing degree at Oxford Brookes University, we are studying what publishing and the industry is like in a digital age. How digitalisation has changed the industry. How it is allowing it to grow, but also the limitations it is causing. The most fundamental issue with technology in the publishing industry, is the growing amount of ease for one to self-publish. In turn this results in publishing companies becoming more and more minimalistic. Along with this, the industry is seeing drastic change in devices, formats, standards, new technology and issues with piracy, causing companies and individuals to adapt and change. In my blog posts, I hope to explore these areas in more detail, showing the issues the publishing industry is having but also how digitalisation and technology could in fact aid the industry. Digitalisation is effecting so many different industries; music, film and largely the publishing industry. But is the death of the book as prominent as it was?
